Brief: A matching earrings and necklace set to complement a cosmic dress

This customer was attending a charity ball with a space theme, and had managed to purchase a dress printed with stars and planets to accompany the theme. The brief was to create a jewellery set for the occasion. I was keen to see the fabric and dress for design inspiration and to understand what style of jewellery would work best.
Initially, we had a chat about the type of jewellery that S liked, style preferences for the occasion and budget. We also took a closer look at some of the images on the dress fabric and decided on a pair of earrings which picked out the starbursts and a corresponding planet themed pendant. S also had some jewellery which she was happy to repurpose for the projects and this provided both sterling silver and gold.
I sketched some designs for her to consider and she chose a pair of asymmetrical earrings, with one stud and one drop starburst around a centre gemstone. We decided to use mismatching gemstones for the earrings to continue the asymmetrical theme. The pendant necklace featured sterling silver rings surrounding a 9ct gold centre textured planet, and the design was a direct match for an image on the dress.
Once the earrings and pendant were completed, the customer confirmed the length of chain she required to best show off the pendant with her dress. This was a really fun project and I enjoyed matching jewellery to an outfit with such attention to detail. To top it off, S said she felt ‘out of this world’ in her bespoke jewellery on the night!
